There is a nasty bug that came with one of the expansion packs, I think it was Ambitions. When you place certain houses they will sink into the terrain or create a little mountain and sit above the terrain. I never had that happen to me until yesterday. I remolded on of EA's houses and when I put it back in the world it was down is a hole. I remembered reading about a fix for the problem a long time ago and decided to give it a try. There is a cheat that lets you change the elevation of a lot and that will fix the problem

You need to type in this cheat before you place the lot.

SetImportedTerrainOffset (value)

(value) Is a positive or negative number depending on whether the lot created a hole or a mountain.

After you place the lot check it before you press the accept button. If it is not level then press the cancel button and try it again. Positive numbers raise the lot and negative numbers lower the lot. You can use a decimal point to fine tune the elevation. If -2 lowers it too much try -1.5. Just keep typing the cheat before you place the lot, changing the numbers until you get it where you want it. It may take several tries but it's possible to get it level with the surrounding terrain using this cheat.

When you are done placing that lot if you plan to place more lots you need to enter the cheat and set the value back to zero.

You are kidding. All the whining so many of us have done over this and you come up with such an elegant solution. http://bearmtncreations4sims3.com/public/style_emoticons/default/goodjob.gif

If only the bug had happened to you six or more months ago. http://bearmtncreations4sims3.com/public/style_emoticons/default/crazysmile.gif

That is crazy. I went through using the constrain floor elevation fix that Rose pointed us to a while ago over at Custom Sims. That worked but it was tedious and the house is kind of screwy because the foundation is doubled if you know what I mean. :Smile:/>

I tried that floor elevation fix exactly once. It was tedious in the extreme and, like your example, I still had a wonky house at the end of it.

By the way I don't want poor Rose to think I was being critical of her trying to help. It was much appreciated and after googling for hours on end prior to that link it was the best tutorial I was able to find at the time. It did work and it saved my Autumn Spice house which I do still use. :blow-a-heart:/>

I'm going to see if I can find an old copy of that house and try this new method. If I remember though after late night this house caused a CTD so I'm not sure if an older one will work out. :growl:/>

Oh yay! I'm going to try it on the Ottomas house - it killed me that that house wouldn't work and I still have it in my bin!! :thumbsu:/> Thanks Rich... :wub:/>

ETA: Oh well, apparently it's too late for the Ottomas house - as soon as I tried to place it the game crashed. :(/>

I have houses like that in my bin too. It is so frustrating. My game doesn't crash to desktop but it just hangs there forever not doing anything. http://bearmtncreations4sims3.com/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif

That is a bummer SQ. When I first loaded NL and was trying to place my Autumn Spice in Bridgeport it CTD as well. Just on a fluke I went back into a saved version of TB where I built the house (big mistake there) and somes sims were living there. I booted them out and saved that version to the library. Then I was able to place it in BP. It was really weird that it worked that way.

Of course that was when I discovered the lot bug. I'm going to see if I can locate that saved game since I've moved many of those old ones to my external HD and try to get it in original form that way to try this method of fixing the elevation problem. Don't know if either of you by chance still have a saved game that will load and your families in the houses in your library that cause the CTD but its worth a shot. :Smile:/>

Most of my houses that hang have families in them though I did have one house that would hang even on its own. It was a tiny little place that I built so I have no idea why. I have umpteen copies of everything so it's not as if I can't always find replacements. It is just annoying especially as it usually happens when I am setting up a hood and haven't saved for a month of Sundays.

Rich this is great! :Thank You:/>

HB, :snicker2:/> you're so sweet. The information I passed on was what was there at the time. Now we have something better and I will be passing that around too. :dancer:/>

Thank you Rose for understanding after I blatantly threw you under the bus and then just proceeded to run over you. :kneeslapper:/> Like you said there was no other known answer at the time and I don't ever remember seeing that cheat in the list but knowing me if it were there all along then I just ignored it. :snicker2:/>

Oops. I sound ungrateful to you too Rose. I didn't mean that or even to sound ungrateful to the person who discovered that earlier fix. At least it was something to try at the time when no-one else had any answers. http://bearmtncreations4sims3.com/public/style_emoticons/default/ok.gif

Could anyone take a pic of that error so I can make a blog-entry about this for future reference ?

Sure can Crin. I was planning to dig out my original borked lot that I later fixed with the old method. I have to find the old save with it first. :Smile:/>

I have a problem with this fix.

I have one house that when placed has only one side that elevates. The other three are fine. Also have another lot that has two sides that have the problems but not the other two, so when using this method, the wrong ones are then ok but the others are messed-up.

Any ideas to that ?

That doesn't sound like the lot bug. It sounds like the lot the house was built on was not level. You could try placing the lot and using the lot flatten tool to level it or if that doesn't work you could try the smooth tool. Can't think of anything else to try.
